  • Drew and Jonathan Scott, stars of HGTV’s hit Property Brothers, took to Instagram to celebrate their older brother’s milestone 50th birthday.
  • J.D. is the eldest of the Scott brothers and boasts a career writing, producing, and directing television shows. He even appeared in the twins’ Brother vs. Brother spin-off and hosted a behind-the-scenes series for the title.
  • J.D.’s most notable works include the 2011 film The Oracle and TV One’s Makeover Manor.

It turns out the Property Brothers are actually a trio. While Drew and Jonathan may be HGTV’s favorite twin-brother duo, their career has been greatly influenced by their big brother J.D.

While he’s known simply by his initials, his full name is James Daniel Scott. A triple threat, the eldest Scott brother has a past in acting, writing, and producing ahead of the twins’ HGTV debut. Most notably, he directed the 2011 film The Oracle and appeared on TV One’s Makeover Manor. J.D. also hosted the Great American Country’s reality TV show, All-American Amusement Parks.

After Drew and Jonathan landed at HGTV, all three brothers appeared on the show Brother vs. Brother, and J.D. later hosted a behind-the-scenes show for the title. The three brothers also cofounded the production company, Scott Brothers Entertainment.

Both Drew and Jonathan took to Instagram to celebrate J.D.’s 50th birthday, and fans were equal parts delighted and surprised to learn about the third Property Brother.

In a sentimental carousel, Drew opened with a throwback photo of him sitting side by side with his long-haired big bro. He closed with a comical shot of J.D. in a kilt, side eyeing the camera, and serving Scottish flair. Fans marveled at J.D.’s appearance, with one writing, “Why does the big 50 look like the big 30 on you?? What’s your secret?” and another musing at the then teen’s shaggy black hair, writing “JD looks like he was in a rock band lol.”

Jonathan took a less sappy route, opting to post an A.I. generated gag that left fans divided, but hopefully gave J.D. a good laugh.

Despite the discourse, fans still sent their sentiments, one writing “Happy Birthday to the Big brother!! 🎂🎊🥳...” and another posting a string of celebratory emojis, “🥂🥳🎈🎂🎉👏👏👏👏.”

Hilariously enough, some commenters mistakenly wished the twins a great birthday instead of J.D. Folks, he’s his own person—and he thinks twins are “creepy.”
