I'm a Shopping Editor, and My 16 Home Essentials Are All on Sale for Prime Day

There are a lot of hats in our apartment, and yes, we wear them all. When we moved into our apartment, we installed a closet organization system on the wall, and although it came with built-in hooks, there weren't enough to support all of these hats. They were constantly falling off, so last week, I pulled the trigger and ordered this set of four wall hooks. Each one fits about five hats.

This adorable leather tissue box is obviously more fashion than function, but it is well worth buying (it's also only $8, which makes it a worthwhile purchase, in my opinion). There is a box of Kleenex on my fiancé's nightstand, and those boxes are just not cute. They're usually bright colors and finished in a childlike pattern, which is very cute, but doesn't really go with the vibe of our bedroom. I bought this tissue box cover to hide the Kleenex design, and it instantly elevates the nightstand.

My apartment building was constructed in 2015, so I was surprised to learn that our shower did not seem to be designed for life in the 21st century. There are no built-in coves, wide tub ledges, or other storage options to stow shower products. There's also a handheld shower head, so we can't even hang a caddy around that!

Enter these caddies, which hook onto transparent non-marking adhesive. If you follow the instructions (clean and dry the shower wall, stick the adhesive on, and wait at least six hours before hooking the caddy), you're good to go. I have had mine since June 2024, and they have shown no signs of age or wear.

They can also support quite a bit of weight! As you can see, we keep plenty of heavy products in here, and neither of the caddies has given up.

Dryer balls are a safer, non-toxic version of dryer sheets. These last about a year before they start shedding, which is the telltale sign to get a new batch. They're also the easiest way to dry sheets or other bulky pieces evenly.

We don't have a traditional dining table, but we do have a massive island that's settled with two bar stools. Personally, I didn't love the look of such an expansive white space with no way to delineate each person's dining area, so these colorful placemats were a very cost effective solution. They look and feel real, but they're faux leather, which makes them very easy to clean.

I wrote an entire essay about my disdain for boring, white dishes, and I stand by it. However, I do own this set of thick, porcelain cereal bowls because I, and surely many other people do as well, have a need for them. Whenever I'm making a colorful pasta dish, heating butter for a recipe, or need a late-night scoop of ice cream, I break these out. They're just easy and reliable.

This insulated water bottle is easy to fill, convenient to carry in your purse, and perfect for use throughout the day. It fits in cupholders and purses, and it's easy to carry. The best part, though, is that it keeps water cold for hours. It's part of my huge bottle collection, and it's easily one of my favorites.

If you are a regular at Maman, you probably recognize this mug. Otherwise, all you need to know is that it's by the English porcelain company Johnson Brothers, which was founded by a pair of brothers in 1883. Yes, Amazon sells heritage brands, people! I originally bought this mug on my favorite website, replacements.com, but broke it, so I found it on my other favorite website, Amazon, and ordered it immediately. It now sits on my desk at the House Beautiful office.

My mom found this pillow brand when we moved into my childhood home in 2007. It has reappeared in each new house every time they moved. She also bought me two for my first post-grad apartment. It's safe to say: I love them. When I moved into my current apartment last year, I decided to toss the ones that I had had for nearly a decade and buy a new set. They are unbelievably soft and mushy, but they offer plenty of support.

Yes, there are a few coffee table books on the nightstand shelf. This one is the thick white one in the middle of the stack. I personally think coffee table books make for great decor and even better gifts. There is no more personal present than a book about a very specific, niche subject, which is why almost all of my own coffee table books are about country houses around the world. The only downside is the price. Oftentimes, they're expensive. On Prime Day, though, this absolutely gorgeous 336-page tome is $51, down from $85. A steal, if you ask me.

If you haven't already realized, I love cheap things that look expensive. This plastic toothbrush holder, which resembles marble, is a perfect example of what I mean. Our sink surround is quite narrow, and the medicine cabinet will wipe out everything in its path whenever we open or close it, so I needed a toothbrush holder that could take a beating without completely breaking. This item has fallen onto our floor many times, and it remains intact.

First, I will acknowledge the elephant in the room: My Dutch oven is lapis, not orange, but mine is not on sale, and this one is. And guess what: They're the exact same in terms of functionality and craftsmanship. I am all for bright colors when it comes to this cookware because you buy it to both cook delicious meals, but also to display it, so a boring color just isn't an option.

This is one of the few pieces we brought from my fiancé's apartment before we moved in together. It's so narrow and long that we didn't really know where to put it, but then once we got our couch, we realized we had the perfect spot for it. I actually do use it all the time because the chaise part of the couch is my area, and I can't sit on the sofa without something to drink and snack on, and thankfully, I have this table within arm's reach.

Everyone needs disposable plates. You never know when you'll need them, and realizing that when it's too late is the worst. I bought these a week or so before I hosted my book club, and I have about 40 left over. I love knowing that I have them for next time.
