2 min readAfter more than a decade of living with roommates, I’m finally flying solo. Last year, I sold all the furniture in my New York apartment and relocated across the country to Los Angeles. While I was excited to start fresh, furnishing an empty apartment from scratch wasn’t exactly easy—or cheap. So, I opted for a mix of one-of-a-kind vintage finds and highly rated Amazon pieces, including my always-complimented silver barstools. At just $109 for a set of two, the expensive-looking seats never fail to catch guests’ attention.
My kitchen’s design is quite bold—think yellow cabinets, a blue fridge, and a lizard-shaped rug, so I wanted my barstools to be on the simpler side to balance out the playful elements. Silver, in my opinion, has a sleeker feel, so I skipped gold in favor of the shiny metal. After adding a few options to my Amazon cart (as one does on the site), I stumbled upon these minimalist silver barstools and knew almost immediately they had to be mine.
The reviews solidified my decision. “They add a touch of elegance to the room,” one buyer wrote. “Absolutely beautiful and surprisingly very comfortable,” another added. I agree: the stools strike a balance between polished and practical. (After all, there’s nothing worse than buying a piece of furniture only to discover it’s too uncomfortable to actually use.) The ledge for resting your feet is just the cherry on top of an already practical design.
The look of these barstools is equal parts modern and retro, in my opinion. Despite their minimalist design, the stools have a vintage-like quality that makes them feel plucked straight from a dinner scene in an old movie. The size is also perfect for small apartments, as they don’t take up much space. Meanwhile, the adjustable height means everyone, short or tall, can comfortably use them.
Perhaps best of all is the assembly, which took maybe five minutes, tops. As someone who is notoriously not great with tools (and instructions, if we’re being honest), I was thrilled to learn that the barstools were a breeze to put together—which isn’t always the case for furniture. Of course, the under-$150 price didn’t hurt either, especially when you’re in the process of furnishing an entire apartment. And given how affordable these barstools are, I was pleasantly surprised by how well-made they feel. After plenty of use, they’re still holding up beautifully.
