These floor standing lamps even look good with the lights off.

Floor lamps are great for both ambient lighting and making a design statement in the home. Whether you're looking for a modern, Scandinavian, rustic, antique or industrial style, a floor standing lamp can be the perfect finishing touch to your living space.
'The right floor lamp can complement and accentuate your design scheme,' says Jo Plant, head of design at Pooky. 'Floor lamps come in all shapes, sizes, materials and colours, from wood, brass and metallic bases, to silk, parchment, cotton, jute and ikat lampshades.'
If you need a floor lamp for task lighting, choose one with a flexible head, enabling you to adjust it in any direction – ideal for reading as you can direct the light onto your book. If you want a floor lamp for ambient lighting, uplighters – great for room-wide lighting – or the more traditional fabric shade floor lamps, will do the trick.
Jo says: 'A sleek, streamlined metallic number will fit beautifully in a contemporary space, while a more traditional setting might suit a more classic frame – such as an elegant, upright pillar floor lamp in wood or brass, paired with a tapered material shade, which will look the part and spread the light nicely around the space.'
When it comes to floor-standing lamps, a popular design is the arc floor lamp, which thanks to its curve, is ideal over a sofa or armchair. Hollywood-inspired tripod floor lamps always make a charming addition, while copper floor lamps are equally popular for those who love metallic accents. Aesthetically pleasing modern floor lamps work great in a contemporary home.
'When choosing floor lamps for your space, you should take into account the scale and dimensions of the room, as well as your existing decor, furnishings and overall design theme,' advises Jo.
'It’s important to consider the height of the room and the size of your existing furniture. For example, a tripod or oversized floor lamp can look fantastic in the right surroundings, but could make a smaller room with a low ceiling feel more enclosed.'
