Poppies, irises and roses are three standout plants from this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and according to garden designer Arit Anderson, there was one colour that stole the spotlight too.
'Yellow really is the colour at Chelsea this year,' said BBC's RHS Chelsea presenter Arit, who commended the way Tom Massey and Je Ahn used yellow planting throughout their gold medal-winning Avanade Intelligent Garden.
'Yellow is so underplayed in gardens and I don't know why, because you can see from the riverbank into the dry area at the front, it's such a fantastic colour,' continued Arit. 'If you're going to use something like yellow, you can play with all of the pastels through to the brights if you wish, but here, I like the pops of colour and the clash of colour.
'The [yellow] primula and the [purple] iris are on the opposite side of the colour wheel, each colour makes the other one look brighter, or maybe you like the clash of the pink with yellow, I really, really love that.'
Gardening aside, yellow has certainly been one of the hottest colours of 2025, from fashion through to interiors, and it was also named Dulux's Colour of the Year. From shade du jour, butter yellow, to golden mustard hues, you can't go wrong with this feel-good colour.
'Yellow is the colour of the sun, so it can't do anything other than put a smile on your face,' concluded Arit.
