37 Celebrities Who Tragically Lost Their Homes in the Wildfires Last Year—and Where They Stand Today

The historic home in the Pacific Palisades where the Deschanel sisters grew up burned in the fire that devastated that neighborhood. Actress Zooey Deschanel wrote a heartfelt tribute to the house, in which her parents still lived. "The Christmas dinners, Easter egg hunts, trick or treating, weddings, birthdays, baby showers… we celebrated the best moments of our lives there," she wrote. "The family photos that lined the hallways, the artwork, the piano I learned to play on, the wedding china, the furniture my great-great-great-grandfather built… the reminders of generations past: All have vanished into thin air."

The former talk show host revealed that her Malibu "dream" house was destroyed during the wildfires. "The place where we planned to grow old together," she wrote on Instagram in 2025. "We never took our heavenly spot on the bluff overlooking our beloved Malibu for granted, not even for one second." In fact, Lake reveals that this property was where she married her husband, Ross Burningham, in 2022.

A year later, she still remembers Malibu as "heaven on earth." "Ross and I have chosen to live in New York City for right now, but my heart is [and] always will be with Malibu," she told fans in a post this week. "It is the most beautiful place I’ve ever lived in my entire life, and Ross and I can’t wait to be back living on our Bluff appreciating each and every sunset, those early morning hikes, and beach walks with our beloved rescue dog Dolly."

"The actor posted a photo on Instagram of what was left of his house, which burned in the Palisades fire. Though the Pretty Little Liars star said his heart was "broken" in the midst of the fires, he's finding the silver lining a year later.

"This terrible experience has been a powerful reminder of this simple truth," he wrote. "We can’t always control what happens to us in this life, but we can control how we respond." Lowe specifically says he is "in awe" of his wife, Kim, and their daughters' resilience.

The award-winning songwriter remembered the fire with a view from her Malibu home—and the fire's heart-wrenching aftermath. "One year ago today," she captioned the post. Sending love to everyone who lost so much that day."

Keleigh Teller just shared never-before-seen photos of their former house, which they completed with Pierce & Ward shortly before the fires began. "We had so much fun designing this," she wrote on Instagram. "Today feels fitting as it's been a year since the LA fires. My heart is with everyone also dealing with grief."

After safely evacuating, the This Is Us star posted on Instagram, sharing how "numb" she feels thinking about how much people have lost, including her own family.

A year later, the multi-hyphenate stands with her neighborhood. "I’m grateful for the chance to gather tonight and celebrate how resilient Altadena is," she wrote in a new Instagram post. "To be in community with one another and MUSIC to commemorate what we’ve lived through and what comes next."

In a new Instagram post, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt details evacuating her home and the trauma that followed the fires. "If I’m honest, I didn’t feel safe after that for a very long time," the actress shares. "I didn’t trust in the magic I had always believed in. I didn’t know how to help my kids, my husband, or myself to trust that things would be okay again anytime soon."

However, in the past year, Hewitt saw glimmers of hope and learned just how resilient she really is.

The R&B singer lost the home she shares with her two children. "Me and my children's home is gone," she wrote on Instagram, "burned to the ground with all of our things inside... Starting from scratch. My heart is so heavy."
