• Ikea's Vittsjö laptop stand functions as a sleek C-table – and it's the perfect unsung hero in every space, big or small
  • Made from tempered glass and steel, it's sturdy enough to hold more than just the typical laptop.

As much as I love to celebrate the flashy parts of my living room, I have to show some love to the unsung heroes. My true living room workhorse isn’t my sofa, it’s the space-saving gem that sits in the corner. The Vittsjö laptop stand from Ikea has been a godsend, and for under £30, I’m genuinely shocked by just how versatile it’s proved to be.

I fell in love with the C-table (it's a C-shaped side table that slides under seating, with a cantilevered top that sits comfortably over a sofa or armchair) after witnessing how useful it was in a friend’s flat, and I had to have one of my own.

I bought this Ikea one and this table has followed me to multiple apartments – it’s just too useful to get rid of. The slim legs slide easily under even the lowest sofas, making it ideal for sofa snacking, duvet days, or a comfy work-from-home set-up.

The Vittsjö collection is made from tempered glass and steel, so the table is sturdy enough to hold my plants, my laptop, and even my record player (before I bought a proper cabinet for it). The removable glass top makes it easy to clean and move around, while the transparent surface keeps the look light and airy, allowing light to pass through so it never feels visually heavy. I’ve moved it from corner to corner, and it blends effortlessly with any decor.

Designed by Johan Kroon with versatility in mind, the table blends seamlessly into its surroundings, allowing your favourite decorative pieces to take centre stage while the rest of the room still shines. I’ve used mine as a plant stand and even a makeshift bookshelf, and colourful trinkets and bowls really pop against the transparent top.

There’s also enough clearance underneath for a basket of throws or extra storage, making it ideal for those awkward corners you’ve been trying to put to better use.
