Ikea has unveiled the first three pieces from its 10th PS collection, set to launch this May. While the recurring range often flies under the radar, its focus on pared-back Scandinavian design makes it one to watch.
Today, Ikea is synonymous with the ingenious simplicity of Scandinavian design. During the 1980s, however, the furniture giant lost track of its identity as it attempted to keep up with global trends. This was the founding impetus of Ikea PS in 1995, a kind of 'post script' to the existing range that focused on the Swedish furniture manufacturer's philosophy: restrained design at an affordable price.
The latest PS range – Ikea's 10th to date – focuses on playful functionality, alongside the original pillars of form, function, quality, sustainability and, of course, accessible pricing.
'This Ikea PS collection is all about challenging and being playful while staying simple and creating interesting design. I hope you're as excited about these products as we are,' says creative lead Maria O'Brian.
The full collection will be unveiled on 13th May, marking its official launch. For now, Ikea is offering a first look at three standout pieces from the range.
1. A chair that inflates
Designed by Mikael Axellson, this emerald-coloured inflatable chair sits in a metal frame and is assembled using nothing but a foot pump and good old elbow (or knee) grease.

'An electric pump would’ve made assembly slightly faster and easier,' the designer explains, 'but it would have pushed the price higher and, once the chair is ready to use, you'd be left with electronic waste.
'Ikea is all about democratising design, and in that way, air is the perfect material to work with. It’s free and everyone has access to it. Plus, it enables minimal packaging and overall raw material use.'
2. A lamp that bends
Bendy lamps may not be new, but this Ikea PS design elevates the concept with a much more sophisticated take.
Designed by Lex Pott, the design comes in a vibrant blue, a light yellow and a jewel-toned red, and is inspired by small spaces and can be used in three different ways: as an uplighter, a spotlight, and a reading lamp.
'When you rotate the lamp, it doesn't just change the light, but the atmosphere of the space,' Lex says of his design.
'We reduced the design to its clearest possible form, and the function doesn't reveal itself at first glance – but that's where the joy and playfulness live. There are layers that reveal themselves slowly, and an emotional bond that grows the more you live with it.'
3. A bench that rocks
Made from light solid pine wood – a Scandinavian design pillar – this sturdy rocker brings subtle movement and playfulness to a space.
'From the first prototype, I noticed people couldn't help themselves,' says designer Marta Krupińska. 'They'd sit down, start rocking, then call someone over to try it. Furniture shouldn't take itself too seriously. That instinctive childlike impulse to just play is something we rarely express as adults, but it’s so important to have objects that invite that side to come out.'
The full collection will be unveiled on Wednesday 13th May 2026 and will be available in stores and online from May onwards.
