Ikea's viral shelving unit, Byakkore, is back in stock – and it couldn't be better timed.
Originally part of Ikea’s sixth and final 70th anniversary Nytillverkad collection (which launched in February 2025), the multicoloured shelving unit first sold out after becoming a hit with design fans thanks to its industrial frame, playful colour accents and archive design credentials.
Byakorre, originally launched in 1985 as the guide shelving unit, and later renamed Enetri, was designed by Niels Gammelgaard. The original design stood out for its steel wire sides and colourful shelf edges – a look that perfectly captured the bold, urban furnishing style of the 1980s.
Niels famously discovered he could produce the shelves in multiple colourways without any additional cost, resulting in a characterful design that quickly became a classic.
Reintroduced as Byakorre, the open shelving unit offers furniture fans the chance to own a piece of Ikea design history for an accessible £129. Since its relaunch in 2025, it has become a viral success on TikTok and Instagram, with fans sharing how they style the four-tier unit in living rooms, kitchens and small spaces.
The timing of the restock couldn’t be better either, as open shelving like Byakorre taps into one of this year’s biggest living room trends: the art of collecting.
From gallery walls to curiosity-led displays, 2026 is shaping up to be the year the living room fully embraces thoughtful curation, where books, objects and memories come together to shape a home’s character.
