What are you most proud of in your home? Is it a tricky DIY project with endless challenges? Or perhaps a room renovation completed on a budget? Well, according to new research, there's one thing Brits are most proud of — and it's not what you'd expect.
A study conducted by Emperor Paint found that the humble garden shed is a source of pride for many people. Whether used for storage, workshopping personal projects, or even parties during the summer months, homeowners are proudest of their sheds compared to any other part of the home.
Meanwhile, home offices, fire pits, conservatories, and kitchen islands rounded out the top five. With a joint average of 185,900 searches per month, firepits and conservatories are among the most-shared features on social media as people create cosy focal points in their gardens.
When the study looked closely at regional splits, they found that homeowners in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Coventry are the most fond of their home working spaces. Over in Edinburgh, people were proudest of their playhouses, regularly sharing their DIY-ed creations online.
'It's no surprise that home features like garden sheds, outdoor entertaining areas and offices are quickly becoming sources of pride,' says Jack Reading from exterior paint specialists Emperor Paint.
'Over the past few years, we've seen homeowners invest more time and care into the spaces that reflect their personality and lifestyle, including their property's exterior. A well-maintained, freshly painted shed, fence, or exterior doesn't just improve appearance; it protects surfaces from the elements and helps ensure these much-loved spaces stand the test of time.'
