Ikea is on a mission to make home electronics look less boring, starting with a revamp of its existing Vappeby speaker range.

Functional home tech can often be stored out of sight, or disguised with some clever styling on a sideboard or storage unit, but the Swedish furniture giant wants to change all of that by harnessing the power of bold, feel-good, mood-boosting colour palettes.

Joining forces with multidisciplinary colourist Tekla Evelina Severin, commonly known as Teklan, the collab will explore how electronics can seamlessly integrate into living environments.

‘Home electronics is seen by many as something functional that you sometimes want to hide, and it can be difficult to make products blend naturally with the rest of the interior,’ says Sara Ottosson, product developer at Ikea. ‘Collaborating with Tekla Evelina Severin allows us to explore how colour and design can bring home furnishing and electronics closer together, with pieces that you are excited to display.’

With a focus on bold yet harmonious combinations, Teklan brings a unique perspective to the role of colour and pattern in the home.

'Colour has the power to shift our perspective and encourage us to see everyday objects in new ways,' says Teklan. 'With this collaboration, I hope we can inspire more people to explore what colour can be and what it does for a home – inviting them to reconsider the role that home electronics can play. By approaching them as part of the home’s overall identity, we can create environments where colours, patterns, and technology come together naturally.'
